Couch Coveting

I'm a woman on a mission! I need to find the perfect vintage couch for our new place. I won't be able to actually buy one until the house is officially ours since I won't have anywhere to keep it. I know where to look for one, but in the mean time I thought if anyone in mid michigan has one they would part with for a decent price or (preferably) a barter for photography services contact me! Looking for pale colors, nothing too drab. Light blue or mint green, or pink! Good condition with no obvious discoloration!

Smoking kids.

A few weeks ago I did a photo shoot of two awesome kids (my close friend's kids) nicknamed "Mini" and "Tiny" We did the kids version of the trailer trash pin up shoot i'm currently booking in august and sept. I specifically gave the kids root beer bottles (not real beer bottles) and candy cigarettes, (Not realistic looking at all) because it was the the kiddy dress up version. Like how kids might mimic what they saw their parents doing in a in a trailer park in the 1960s with what they could buy on their own at the market. Now I don't want to say this shoot was overly controversial (there were a total of 3 people who had negative comments, out of over 100 comments of people saying they loved it, or defending my choice of candy ciggs (seems like i'm not the only one who grew up loving those!) There was one woman who I actually had to write because I was so appalled by her comment. But over all I'm happy I had so much support and so many people saw the humor in the photos. The mother of the kids made a fantastic point, cedar point, the western photo booths, parents allow their kids to be photographed with bottles of Jim Beam, guns, and who knows what else (I haven't seen one in some time) so if these sugary treats you can buy at the store well under the age of 18 that awful? I think the majority has ruled that candy cigarettes are not a gateway drug.

Frieke Janssens, one of my favorite photographers did a series of smoking kids that I adore, she used chalk and cheese sticks in place of the cigarettes and then photo shopped them in, you can see all the photos and a making-of video here.

I absolutely adore these photos, I hope someday I can do work like this and not be too harassed about it.

Locked into a contract!

We are officially about half way through the home buying process.
I scoured the internet for weeks looking for a house that would be big enough, and had the right look to it that I love. Kevin needs workshop space, and I need studio space, and we also needed just space to live normal lives with out having to clean our tiny house for 2 hours straight before a client comes over (our current house is so small, 2 or 3 things out of place and it looks a mess!) Finally I found a house that made me excited to see it. Kevin was a little more reserved at first, he didn't want to get too attached early on, like I tend to do.  I finally came across this little gem! Little isn't the right word, the house is over 2000sqft, 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a den and an office! A huge living room with and dining room, with beautiful wood floors, an already amazing retro kitchen, and of course a basement for me to hide from tornadoes in (we don't have one now, and im always on edge when theres even a watch, my great grandma had part of her house ripped off with her and her siblings inside when they were kids, and since then instilled fear in my grandma, who instilled it in my mom, and well, you get the idea!) And a nice big garage for Kevin to work in.

I knew Kevin was hooked after the first time we looked at it, he started referring to it as "our house", and telling my its suppose to be ours, haha. He's cute. Now we're locked into a contract with the seller, and we're getting it inspected in a couple weeks (earliest appointment they had..)
In the mean time its taking all I have in me not to start packing and picking out wall colors. (okay i've kind of already pick out some wall colors, ill admit it.) I know we're not out of the woods yet, but i'm so excited that the very first thing I'll own that isn't an old car that doesnt run right now might be this big beautiful house. I love that it has old doorknobs from when it was built in 1906, but still has its quirky 50s/early 60s renovations, like ice blocks windows in the den, retro hardware on the kitchen cupboards, and, well, some (just some) pretty ugly carpet, but I have a feeling there is nice wood floors under most of it! And MY GOD, the closet space! I think every bedroom has at least 3 closets except one. There are built in shelves, cupboards and drawers everywhere, and above the garage is a nice big attic space. I would be SO happy to finally have real storage space for all my crazy costumes and props, and could actually start getting more of the stuff I want to use in photos! I think in the long run, it may be a lot of work getting this house, and I am no fan of painting, or any manual labor. But it could make our lives so much easier, I could expand my business, and maybe even my family, someday...Yeah, more cats! (haha.) On a side note, I really want a pet chicken. Just throwing that out there.

My amazing husbear turned 27 today. I bought him boring new socks, underwear, and shorts, a glider plane kite, a bunch of 1940s/50s model airplane magazine and a couple Gig prints for our collection. Now he's playing SNES on the tv and we're cooking on the fire tonight with some of his buddies..

and.....Our real estate agent called a couple hours ago, left a message saying we had a response to our offer (didnt say what) and now is not picking up her phone or returning my message!! I'm pulling my hair out waiting to hear. She said she wants us to come to her office today, my friend who works for her said thats got to be a good thing. So fingers crossed! Maybe Kevin will have a pretty damn good birthday.

Missing.

Hi Blogger world, i've been m.i.a. forever now and I apologize, I've had a hard long year and its not getting much easier, but luckily its not easier for good reasons and not bad lately. My business has been doing well, which i'm excited about, I actually managed all on my own to save enough money to buy a house. We found one i'm excited and put in a bid yesterday, so now i'm in the biting my nails and jumping everytime the phone rings mode.

I was only posting recent photos I had taken the last few times I blogged, I figured thats boring, anyone can see my new photos when I upload them to my facebook page, so now i'm only going to blog about other things (although I may occasionally slip in some photos. (o:, I can't help it all the time.)

Someone is missing from this world, and yesterday when I heard the news I was so sad. Let me share a little bit of this fantastic woman with all of you.

R.I.P. Susan Tyrrell
March 18, 1945 – June 16, 2012

She was a fabulous actress who lived up her life in the last words her mother ever spoke to her "Your life is a celebration of all things cheap and tawdry." I adore her for that!

Of course my favorite role of hers was Romana Ricketts, counter part of Iggy Pop, Grandmother to Wade "Crybaby" Walker (Johnny Depp) in one of my all time favorite John Waters films, Crybaby.

You will be missed. <3
